The quizzes for the next three weeks will be on Christ's Agony. They are a bit different from my other quizzes. These are more like studies than they are like quizzes.

What did Jesus tell His disciples to do while He went further into the garden to pray? (Mark 14:32) 3. Which disciples did Jesus single out to take with Him into the depth of the garden, and what were His instructions to them? (Mark 14:33) 4. Did the disciples who went with Jesus do what Christ asked of them? (Mark 14:37 & Matthew 26:39 - 46) 5. What did Jesus pray about? (Mark 14:36 & Matthew 26:39) 1. Answer: Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He felt a terrible heaviness upon Him, and wanted to get to a place of quietness where He could pour out His soul to His Father. (Matthew 26:36) 2. Answer: Jesus instructed His disciples to sit and watch. (Mark 14:32). "And they came to a place called Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray." 3. Answer: Jesus took with Him, Peter, James, and John. (Mark 14:33). "And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch." That is all Christ asked His disciples to do: Watch. 4. Answer: No. The disciples, Peter, James and John, did not do what their Lord asked. When Christ returned from His sorrowful prayer He found His disciples sleeping. Three times He went to pray. Three times He came back to find them sleeping. (Mark 14:37 & Matthew 26:39 - 46) 5. Answer: The human (versus the divine) nature of Christ is demonstrated here. He asked His Father in heaven if there was any other way to accomplish what He was sent to earth for, other than the ordeal He was about to face. (Mark 14:36 & Matthew 26:39) © Helen Dowd
