ANSWERS:
1. Samuel, when Saul called him up from the grave.
I Samuel 28:15 "And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed: for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do."
(Samuel was displeased to have been called back from the dead, and Saul was not happy with what Samuel had to say. He told him that he and his sons would be killed.)
2. Nicodemus to Jesus.
John 3:4 "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" (That is when Jesus told him that he must be born of water and of the Spirit if he wanted to enter into the kingdom of God. Nicodemus accepted.)
3. Pontius Pilate, at Jesus' trial.
Matthew 27:24. "When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it."
4. Peter.
John 13:8. "Simon Peter said unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him "If I wash thee not, thou has no part with me." (Verse 9 Peter's response: "Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.")
5. The thief on the cross.
Luke 23: 39-42 One of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him (Jesus) ......But the other answering rebuked him......We receive the due reward of our deeds..........And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."(And the Lord did. He told him he would be with him that day in paradise)
6. John the Baptist.
John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease." John the Baptist was the forerunner of Christ. He knew that his purpose on earth was coming to an end, and Christ's was just beginning. He had been born to tell people about the coming Redeemer. He knew that in order for Christ's ministry to come to fruition, his must diminish.
7. Bartimaeus.
Mark 10:46 - 51. Blind Bartimaeus sat begging by the wayside. When he heard that Jesus was coming his way, he began to call out. "Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me." Those around him tried to shut him up. He wouldn't be silenced. Jesus heard his cry and commanded him to come to Him. He did. Jesus asked him what he wanted. He said, "Lord, that I might receive my sight." Jesus answered his prayer and healed him. Bartimaeus immediately saw and followed Jesus.
8. Rebekah
Genesis 24:46 This is the story of Abraham sending his servant out to seek a wife for his son, Isaac. The sign of the right woman for Isaac was that she would offer to give him a drink at the well, and offer to draw water for his camels also. Rebekah came to the well. "And she made hast, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also:"
9. Delilah.
Judges 16:9 Samson is one of my least favorite Bible characters, so I am going to let you read this story for yourself. "Delilah said unto Samson, The Philistines be upon thee."
10. The serpent.
Genesis 3:4 Everyone over the age of three knows this story. The serpent came to Eve and told her, "Woman, Ye shall not surely die." It is the first recorded lie in the Bible. Satan, who had entered the serpent, is called the "Father of All Lies." He invented the lie, and has been lying and getting men to lie ever since. If you do not know this story, read it for yourself in Genesis chapter 3.
