That night, November 24, 2007, I was too tearful to add anything to this poem about Rocky. But I want to say that he was Hart's constant companion, and the many times Hart has been in the hospital from 2004 and on, Rocky would come with me when I would visit. He would lie on the bed with Hart, content just to be with him. About 2 months ago he became ill...The vet's meds didn't help...He died at home, after struggling to each of the three of us, to say his last goodbyes. How helpless we felt, seeing him struggling for his last breath. But now he is out of pain. He will be sorely missed by many!...Helen Written November 24, 2007 – at 11:00 p.m. We lost a faithful friend tonight. You struggled hard to win the fight. But sickness got you in the end. Oh Rocky, you were our guard and friend. No longer will we hear you bark When neighbours in our driveway park. You’ll come no longer to our call, Or bring to us your favourite ball. We’ll miss you when we take a walk Into the town and through the park. We’ll miss your bark when people call. You loved to welcome one and all. You’d warn us when the phone would ring, And add your voice when we would sing. You made friends everywhere you went. We know that you were heaven-sent. We all prayed hard that you would stay, But God saw fit to take you away. Although our eyes are filled with tears, We thank you for seven happy years. So long, our faithful friend, Rocky. ![]()
