A Missionary's Homecoming
by Betty Jo Mings

Returning from the mission field is quite a culture shock.
She wonders if she ever will fit in.
She looks at all the costly clothes, and cars, and fancy homes;
And finds it’s worlds away from where she’s been.

The sun has dried her hair, and made her skin feel rough and chapped,
And her donated clothes are out of style.
But those to whom she’s ministered have known she’s Heaven-sent;
She’s given all, and gone the extra mile.

She never felt looks mattered there – they loved her as she was,
And many learned to love her Jesus too.
But as she comes back home she knows she doesn’t quite belong,
She’s feeling lost, and unattractive too.

Yet God looks deep inside her heart and sees the beauty there,
A beauty far beyond what man can see.
It comes from her devotion to the Lord Whom she adores,
And her desire to serve Him faithfully.

She needs your understanding, and she also needs your prayers,
To help with each adjustment and each test.
And as you love wholeheartedly this precious saint of God,
You’ll find that you’re the one who has been blessed.
