Well here it comes again,
That special occasion
Of world wide celebration
Third Sunday in June,
That special global date,
That the world's children celebrate.

It's another American original
An idea thought up by Sonora Dodd,
Officially confirmed by Pres. Nixon's nod.
Talking about that day
Set aside each year
To 'specially recognize our Fathers dear.

Now there are good Fathers,
And not so good ones,
As is true as well, of daughters and sons.
In the Bible are recorded
The successes and failures
Of the deeds and training of many Fathers.

On the downside is the record
Of Eli, Priest of Israel,
A very bad, father example.
However there is recorded
On the other hand,
The great example of Father Abraham,

Who is a beautiful type of God,
Offering up His only begotten Son,
Receiving the wages of our sin.
And many other Fathers
In the Bible, are profiled,
Some very hard, others very mild.

Fatherhood is not only an honor,
But also a serious responsibility,
And should never be entered into lightly.
So rear your children all " ye Fathers",
In the admonition of the Lord,
To live in obedience to His Word.

I conclude this poem
With a sincere prayer
For Father's of children every where,
That this day of special recognition,
Be a God honoring celebration.
