"Contentment"

Contentment is within our hearts and souls.
Is the world content?
Bombs flying, people dying,
that's all you ever hear.
People thinking to themselves
"A hero I will be!.
A bomb I'll put around my waist
and then I will set myself free.
Innocent lives I'll take away
and then the world will see.
A hero I will be!"
If the devil is within these mortals.
A sad world has come to be.
God please hear our plea and set the world free--
free from people who do not see
that hate is not the way.
Love your neighbor and then you'll see
a peaceful world for you and me.

Little Angels

This poem is dedicated to the children and villagers who died in the earthquake

Where have the little children gone?
The rubble buried them and they are not to be seen.
A cry in the dark, a little hand holding on.
The mother's scream when they see a broken child.
Is this a dream, a terrible dream?
The villagers are gone and their homes too.
How can nature do this to you?
An earthquake with a powerful force buried them.
Deep in the darkness with eyes closed.
The sleeping Angels received their wings and arose.
They flew to heaven to God's modest abode.
The families will remember these brave little ones.
Our hearts cry why? Why? Why?
Did they have to die.

"Mother and Daughter Connected"
Written for my mother when she was dying of lung cancer. She died in 2002

When you are gone our spirits will be one.
Our connection will never end.
Mother and daughter attached in the womb
from the beginning of life.
Our blood is one and flows deep within our hearts.
Every beat of our hearts is the love we share.
It is a special gift that is always there.
Our spirits will unite one day up above.
Until they do we can share it
as mortals here on earth.
Mother and daughter connected forever.

"Reflections"
(written for my friend Marty)

As you stand there in the mist
the light is shining upon your face:
a face that has character and grace,
wondering if each line upon it tells
a tale of wisdom and knowledge
with each frail line.
To know such wisdom when you’re young
would let you know how it should be--
when the light shines upon your face.
