Yes Lord, I Want This Cup!
by Marianne Vandervalk

Note from Helen: Once again, my sister, Marianne, has consented to share one of her poems. I know you will be blessed. Thanks, Marianne.

Quote from a devotional Bible: "We must believe to see, not see to believe."

Psalm 227:4 "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, wait, I say, on the Lord."

I want to share something that blessed me recently, and I have thought on it much. I read from a devotional, written by the same author as Streams In The Desert. She writes:

"What was the answer of God's love
Of old, when in the olive-grove
In anguish-sweat His own Son lay,
And prayed 'O God, take this cup away?'
Did God take from Him then the cup?
No, my child, His Son must drink it up."

I was in prayer regarding some very heavy burdens on my heart, when the Lord laid on my heart the following poem. I got up and wrote it as it flowed.

Yes Lord, I want this cup!
I know it's what I need.
Help me Lord to drink it up,
Help me now Your word to heed!
I'll drink this cup and all of it,
As You my need reveal,
Give me grace and wisdom, Lord,
My aching heart You'll heal.

Take these things: perfect them Lord,
I yield them up to Thee!
I cannot know just what is best,
Until Your face I see.
My heart, my will, my mind, my all,
I give them to Your charge!
I know not how to walk this path,
These burdens are too large.

I placed them in His loving care,
I know they're safe with Him.
He ONLY knows what's best for me.
Nothing this truth can dim,
So on my way I will rejoice,
Rejoice and sing and pray.
He repeats this often in His word,
He'll always show the way.
