Granny's Rose
Ivie Bozeman

If you have not read Ivie's story, The Value of a Rose, read it now. And then enjoy this poem.

A delicate bud, clothed in green
First upon the stem is seen.
A tiny thing, so pure, so sweet.
It is so perfect, so complete.

Next, stately beauty, red and plush
Emerges from a scrawny bush
That will weather sun and rain
As long as the blooms remain.

Regal in red – this rose stands
A tribute to Granny’s hands
Who watered it tenderly as it grew
When there was no morning dew.

When the rose has opened wide
She cuts and takes it inside,
Puts it in a jelly jar for someone
Who needs a bit of sun and fun.

Two kinds of beauty here are seen-
Granny’s love in red and green.
Tiny things, but Oh so sweet
They are so perfect, so complete.
