The Rooster
James A. Henson

*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*
I awoke very early this morning,
Determined to be the best servant
That God could have today!
I told Him: Lord, you can depend
On me this day; I will not fail you.

*~*~*~*~*~*~* *~*~*~*~*~*~*
All through the early morning,
I tried to remember my responsibility
To let the world know to whom
I belonged, and why. Yes sir, Lord,
You can count on me for sure!

*~*~*~*~*~*~* *~*~*~*~*~*~*
At the noon hour, I became busy
With friends, sharing talk about
All the activities of the previous day
And of those to come this weekend;
This is what friends do, right?

*~*~*~*~*~*~* *~*~*~*~*~*~*
Afternoon work quickly engulfed me
And of course, work is so important.
Opportunities to speak for Him
Were all around me, but I spoke to no one.
His Good News was my well-kept secret.

*~*~*~*~*~*~* *~*~*~*~*~*~*
When darkness came, as I sat alone
In the early evening quietness,
I heard a strange, haunting sound.
It sent me to my knees weeping.
I heard a rooster crowing!
