Pretending "What If?"
Sheryl Splane

Let us just suppose
For a little while.
What if things were of a different
Colour, sort, or style.

What if clouds were purple?
Or the sky always deep red?
Let's suppose that trees grew hair,
And we, leaves on our head.

What if grass was orange,
And snow the colour green.
If grass green grew up in the sky,
'Twould be a different scene.

Let's suppose that cats would bark
And dogs would then meow.
Or if "moo" would go the pig
And "oink" would go the cow.

What a sight it would be
If people had four feet.
If, for clothes, we all grew fur,
Wouldn't that be neat?

I imagine it would be
quite hilarious,
If everyone would look
just like a rhinoceros.

If ears were eyes and eyes were ears,
With noses on our chin.
If mouths were vertical instead,
Would make a funny grin.

On and on we could go
With our imagining.
But when all is said and done,
It won't change anything.

Many times, we might hear it said,
"If only this..."
Maybe sometimes we ourselves
Will mumble, "I just wish..."

Could it be the shape of our nose
That bothers us?
Or that we're short, or, tall or thin,
Or fat, of which we fuss?

Have you thought, if only I
Could be like - so and so?
What we really want to be,
I don't think that we know.

If you could change things around
For even just a day.
In the end you'd change it back
Again the other way.

For God is the Creator,
And He made things Perfectly,
Including plants and animals
And even you and me.
